After three months of regular season competition, followed by nearly a month of playoff excitement, the Ball Park Street Fighter IV Spring 2009 Season has officially come to a close after Monday's championship match. We're very pleased to congratulate the 2009 Spring Champion, GeoM! Thanks to a joint effort between Ball Park and GameBattles, GeoM will take home a cash prize of $5,000! Here's a recap of his incredible season and playoff run!

GeoM joined the Street Fighter IV ladder on March 9th, 2009. He won his first match against XDA0 PR0JECT, and rallied to an 11-0 start before losing to ST3PH3N on March 11th. Though originally just a blemish on his formerly perfect record, the loss was used as motivation. He won his next 21 matches, and at one point during the season had an incredible 46-game win streak. He won his final mach of the Spring 2009 regular season against Mega Buster on May 15th. It was his 10th straight victory at the time, and gave him a total of 212 wins -- while losing only 11 times. He finished with 6,895 XP, over 700 XP more than the second ranked King of Fighters.

GeoM's impressive regular season was enough to earn him the #1 seed going into the playoff tournament. Only 32 teams qualified for the tournament, so naturally the competition was expected to be much steeper and more intense than it was throughout the regular season. Though he was the obvious favorite, many others still welcomed the opportunity of an upset. However, that opportunity proved to be nothing more than a pipe dream as GeoM cruised through the playoff bracket with relative ease: first #32 Double Double, then #16 He's Insayne. Next: Mega Buster (#9), and then Viking Power (#20). Nobody was going to stop GeoM. The championship match between GeoM and #7 seed Dead Cell took place on Monday, July 27th. Dead Cell deserves all the credit in the world, as he had a challenging road to the finals, and even forced GeoM into the tie-breaker match. Still, GeoM was able to prevail with a 2-1 victory to clinch the 2009 Spring Season Championship.

From start to finish, the Ball Park Street Fighter IV Spring 2009 Season was full of excitement and intensity. Several players sported impressive records heading into the playoffs, but there was never a player stronger than GeoM. Thanks to Ball Park for making this whole season possible and once again, congratulations to GeoM on being named Spring 2009 Street Fighter IV Champion! Be sure to join in on the Summer 2009 Season (where, by the way, GeoM is off to a 39-0 start)!
