Last Monday, the Street Fighter IV Spring 2009 Playoffs began, with 32 players entering the scene with a chance at glory. Now, through two rounds, only eight remain -- and the results aren't all that shocking. Six of the eight remaining teams have sprouted from their "Top 10" roots. That only makes the remainder of the playoffs more exciting. Here's a preview of tonight's action.
The #1 overall seed
GeoM has been the best all season long, and has backed it up with post-season wins over #32
Double Double and #16
He's Insaynne. His first true challenge could come from
Mega Buster, who has also performed well so far in the tournament with shutout wins over #24
ExzGunStar and #25
Kioken. In the only match not featuring a member of the Top 10, #21
SkillznStylez, who has defeated #12
ShowMeYourMoves and #5
Team OBD in the first two rounds, hopes to extend his season at least one more round with a win over #20
Viking Power. However, Viking Power also brings an impressive resume to the table: a first round win over #13
Team Tortilla, followed up by a second round win over #4
I Like to Cancel.
Neokarsh, the #6 seed, will face his toughest opponent yet in #6
Greed. Both players have battled well, but Greed has had the more challenging path, needing wins over #27
Everyday I Am Hustling and #11
Team Ever Fighters. The #2 seed
Reno Fresh defeated #31
The Lone Wolf and #15
Certified Prodigy, and now must bring his "A" game and defeat #7
Dead Cell if he hopes to advance. Dead Cell has some momentum coming off of a win over #10
Bu12n, but is still considered the underdog.
Remember, these Quarter-Final matches take place tonight, and Semi-Final action will take place on Wednesday, July 22nd. Be sure to keep an eye on the
Playoff Bracket throughout the week to keep current on the remaining teams. Also, stop right back here next Monday for final Street Fighter IV Spring 2009 update!
