Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Street Fighter fans everywhere: the wait is over at last! After three months of competition on the Street Fighter IV Arena, we're down to just 32 players left going head-to-head for the Spring 2009 Championship! The majority of the remaining 32 players are of top notch skill, and it promises to be an exceptionally entertaining playoff tournament. What's more exciting than two hardcore gamers going one on one for $5,000 in cash? Keep reading for a quick idea of how things are shaping up in the first round.
If you've been following all season long, it should be no surprise that
GeoM finished on top and claimed the #1 seed on the tournament. With 212 wins, GeoM proved that not only does he have the dedication and experience to win the tournament, but he also possesses pure skill. GeoM lost just 11 times throughout the Spring season. He'll play #32
Double Double (69-48) in the first round. Incredibly,
The King of Fighters finished the season undefeated with 173 wins, but did not qualify for the playoff tournament due to inactivity. That means the #2 seed goes to
Reno Fresh. He finished 131-19 and will play
The Lone Wolf in his opening match. Number three seeded
Neokarsh (89-6) will play
Yang (104-62), while number four seeded
I Like to Cancel (110-22) will square off with
Ackackack (126-85). Both Yang and Ackackack are considerably less consistent than their respective opponents, making it hard to believe they'll make it out of the first round -- but anything can happen.
Team OBD finished the season undefeated with 44 wins, ultimately earning himself the #6 overall seed in the playoffs. He will face an average opponent in
Oh-YEAAAAHHHHH when the playoffs begin tonight (7/13). The man entering the playoffs with the most wins of anybody is
He's Insaynne!. Insaynne racked up 340 wins throughout the season, which is an incredible feat, despite losing 96 times along the way. Entering as the #16 seed, Insaynne will surely have all he can handle when he faces #17
Pound of Pound Champ (168-83). One more match to highlight going into Monday night:
ShowMeYourMoves vs.
SkillznStylez. ShowMeYourMoves enters as the #12 seed after winning 257 times during the regular season. His 94 losses proves that he isn't unstoppable by any means, but he's also got the momentum of a 45-game win streak on his side. SkillznStylez, on the other hand, has won 108 matches and lost 46 times. He is the #21 seed. The two have not faced each other before, which only causes more uncertainty when trying to predict a winner.
