The Call of Duty: World at War Spring 2009 Playoffs are down to just four teams remaining. The last several weeks have sorted out the true champion contenders from the rest of the pack, and now more than ever, it's do or die time. The semi-final matches will take place tonight (July 27th), and the finals will be held on Wednesday, July 29th. Here's a closer look at the semi finals!

The #1 seed Independence has dominated all tournament long, winning the majority of their games by shutout. However, they haven't yet played an opponent quite as tough as they will tonight -- Victory Without Sacrifice. Victory Without Sacrifice entered the playoffs as the #5 seed and have for the most part cruised through their opponents. Their only map-loss of the post-season came at the hands of #4 vIIv Gaming in the previous round. The match ultimately ended in a 3-1 win for Victory Without Sacrifice. Independence finished the regular season with 154 wins and just 15 losses, which is significantly more impressive than Victory Without Sacrifice's record of 131 wins and 44 losses, but that truthfully means nothing now. Both teams are 4-0 in the playoffs and will be putting it all on the line when they face off tonight.

In the other half of the bracket, #3 Vizion will take on #7 HaVoK in what is sure to be another classic. Vizion has more experience, finishing the season with 128 wins and only 16 losses, where as HaVoK only amassed 60 wins and 10 losses. However, with the momentum HaVoK has surely gained from their victory over Clan Cleaning Products (the #2 seed) in the previous round, you can't count them out. Vizion's most impressive win so far also came in the previous round, against #14 seeded VenoM, but it was hardly a challenge -- Vizion won 3-0. Who knows what will happen when these two "Top 10" teams go head to head?

Again, both semi-final matches will take place tonight at 9PM EST. The winners will advance to the championship match, to take place on Wednesday. It's been an absolutely wonderful season, filled with action from start to finish. Let's hope that trend continues and we get some exciting semi-final matches! Good luck to the final four! Spectators: keep your eyes peeled for the playoff wrap-up/winners article later this week or early next.
