GameBattles would like to congratulate our Call of Duty: World at War Summer 2009 Champions, for the second straight season, XceL! XceL was one of over 7,000 teams that registered to compete this season, and one of just 64 that qualified for the post-season playoff tournament. The Summer Season kicked off July 1st and lasted throughout September. Finally, on October 21st, a champion was crowned. Here's how it all went down!

Team XceL came into the Summer 2009 Season on a high note after winning the Spring 2009 Championship. They put up 103 wins and lost just 13 times during the regular season, and at one point they won 27 straight games -- 1 game short of their 28-game winning streak back in the Spring. When the season wrapped up on September 30th, XceL claimed the #3 overall seed in the playoff bracket. Only HaVoK (#1) and HeLiX (#2) earned higher seeds.

XceL cruised through the first four rounds without missing a beat. No. 62 ranked La Cosa, No. 30 ranked Club Phoenix, and No. 19 ranked BL!NK all lost to XceL by scores of 3-0. XceL continued their dominance in Round 4, defeated No. 6 ranked Choke Artists -- also with a 3-0 shutout. However, once in the semi-finals, the path became much more challenging. No. 2 ranked HeLix had earned the right to play XceL for a bid to the Finals. The two power-houses clashed, and XceL proved once again why they are the defending champions.

However, XceL could not celebrate yet. Who was waiting for them in the Finals? None other than HaVoK, the season-long #1 ranked team. HavoK finished the regular season with a record of 133 wins and 20 losses, and was looking to capture their first championship. The match lasted 4 maps, but Team XceL came out on top by a score of 3-1 and earned their second straight Call of Duty: World at War Championship! Thanks to everyone who made this season possible, and good luck in future competitions. Once again congratulations to members of Team XceL!
