After much anticipation, the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Spring 2009 Playoffs are finally set to begin! Over 14,000 teams competed throughout the Spring Season -- a season in which
Fully Loaded Gaming racked up 250 wins,
Verdict won 41 straight matches, and
Team Fear recorded a .981 win percentage with an unheard record of 102 wins with only 2 losses. Now, only 64 teams remain in contention for the Spring 2009 Season Championship. Here's a quick breakdown of the bracket:
Team
Performance finished the season with a record of 128 wins and just 11 losses. That was good enough to secure themselves the #1 seed in the playoffs. They'll play #64
TurtleBeach in the first round. Not to discredit TurtleBeach, but Performance has the advantage in both experience and star power and will likely advance. Meanwhile,
Team Fear, who enter the playoffs as the #2 seed, will be playing #63
Blood Line in the first round. Blood Line finished with a 67-24 record, but Team Fear has been through it all before. It's hard to imagine them losing if they bring their "A" game. Number three seeded
ZeRo (80-4) should also advance rather easily over
Team Missouri Storm, who are in their inaugural season together.
The same trend will likely apply to most high seed vs. low seed match-ups in the bracket (although, GameBattles is certainly no stranger to big upsets), but what about the middle-of-the-pack type teams? The #31 seed
The Alumni put together a very strong regular season, finishing with 69 wins and just 11 losses. They'll play
Above Perfection (39-5) in the first round. Veteran squad
Global Threat enters the playoff tournament as the #30 seed, and hopes to use their own experience as leverage over #35
Vengeance.
High Hopes is another underrated team that could do some damage. Entering the playoffs as the #16 seed, they've won 200 matches and have proven themselves against some of the top teams. However, their opponent, #49
ReWritten, also had a strong regular season, winning 80 matches and losing only 15.
Of course, out of the 64 teams remaining, it's impossible to call a winner just yet. There are definitely favorites (see: Team Fear; Performance), but anything can happen. That's what's exciting about the early rounds of the playoffs. You can view the full Call of Duty 4 Playoff Bracket
