Welcome to the first update of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Summer 2009 Season! So far, over 1,000 teams are registered and competing in hopes of qualifying for the post-season playoff tournament. We're beyond the midway point of the season, and anticipation is starting to build throughout the community. Here's a quick look at the current leaders.

Leon X is ranked #1 overall. He has won 20 games in a row, helping to secure a 500 XP lead over second place. With a record of 121 wins and only 14 losses, it seems highly probable that Leon X will clinch a playoff spot. Don't Get Salty! is the current #2, with a record of 80 wins and 9 losses. He's on a 6-game win streak and will need to continue his winning ways if he hopes to catch Leon X. A mere 5 XP behind Don't Get Salty is #3 ranked Citrus. Citrus, whose record sits at 85-10, has won 2 in a row. However, YoshQ, ranked #4, has won three straight matches and is now only 40 XP out of the Top 3. Wrapping up the Top 5 is Cheeseonastick, who has posted 69 wins and 17 losses.

So far, #33 ranked Boku has the most wins on the ladder with 123. He also has 46 losses. The longest winning streak of the competition belongs to the Spring 2008 champion, Jumpman. Jumpman is undefeated at 50-0 and currently sits in 8th place. After finishing in first place for three consecutive seasons (Spring, Summer, and Fall of 2008), he finished 19th in the Winter 2009 season. His 19th place finish came as a surprise to many, considering he only dropped 4 out of 84 total matches that season. In 842 matches played, Jumpman has won 783 of them. CO18, who is ranked 27th overall, has also gone undefeated so far this season. His current tally sits at 26-0

Although Leon X would no doubt be a solid choice if you were making an early prediction for a winner, it's hard to count out Jumpman. He has proven time and time again that he can truly dominate anyone who stands in his way on this ladder. However, things have changed a little since his last first place finish, and it’s hard to gauge how things could turn out this time around? Check back in a couple weeks for another update!
