Just thinking.

What is the meaning of this diversity of life... Are we ourselves or just machines? In another 1,000 years will we be machines or gods? we are on the verge of tranquility and perfection. as humans we now have the ability to start the human race all over again. We created machines.. and now machines can create us. just dream, this is our existence.. dream and dream and dream. it is the only thing that re-directs our minds from the daily process of what we call a life .. something that is already laid out for us until we die.. Just dream and take yourself somewhere you can create, the perfect world. Why do we consider the "waking" life to be real? Why can't our sleep state be the most remembered and most realistic feeling point of existence? When we wake up from a dream we slowly forget the entire dream and begin to proceed with our alter human life, but as we dream we know everything feels so real and we see everything. So think about it, everything we see, feel, touch and hear is projected by our brain whether we are considered awake or asleep .. It is all the same projections coming from the same root. The dream life is not as different as most people make it out to be .. It is just as real as the life we live everyday but most people don't take the time to sit down and realize this. Our awake state and sleep state are two different worlds keep in mind, but you have no recognition for the other world when you are in one. It's funny how when you are in the sleep life you can actually ask yourself if you are dreaming and if what you see is all real. That's how realistic our sleep life is. It is just as real as the life we see everyday in our awake life. Even in our awake life we stop and ask ourselves questions about reality and existence and if everything we see and do is a dream. We battle ourselves to determine which state of mind is actually real? Unfortunately i do not think there is an answer to that though .. not yet at least. They are both just as real as each other and its an amazing idea to sit and brainstorm. Hurting yourself to try and figure out our existence and the meaning of everything that takes part in our lives is completely pointless, the answer will be given to us one day as technology continues to advance. thousands of generations of people have lived and died but only to become closer and closer to finding some bit of information on the explanation of our creation. I'm going to stop here because I'm starting to get ten different ideas in my head at once and it's difficult to keep a steady story. these are just ideas i felt like sharing, nothing too deep just something to ponder and look at if you haven't already. This is one of the first times I've actually written down some of my thoughts while I'm up, preparing for the usual trance & brainstorm nightly insomnia.

I just found out today, literally not more than 10 minutes ago that the girl I have been dating just found out she is pregnant. Even tho I'm skeptical and were going to re-test tomorrow the blue line showed up. I have a feeling that she is, like a sixth sense. I'm 20 years old 1st year in pharmacy school with about 4 years left of school and broke as a joke. She's 18 and in her first semester of college. I have no idea what were going to do. She has already voiced that she wants to get an abortion, and I'm as far right as you go on abortion. I believe everything happens for a reason and I'm not going to lie I'm scared ****less. I don't even love the girl and don't want a relationship with her. I have no ****ing clue what to do.

btw. she was on birth control. ****.

I nearly scared my coworker to death

Okay, so, everyone here except the Pokemon kid knows that I work at Subway. And a lot of people know that I'm going to the army in a few months. And a few of you know that I'm getting a security clearance. Well, none of you knew that on Wednesday I had a federal investigator give me a visit.

It was an interesting few days from when I got the phone call saying that the investigator was coming to when she actually came. I went through various stages of anxiety the likes of which I've never felt before. Its not that there was anything wrong with my past or friends or anything, it's just that I haven't had the best of luck with this kind of thing in the past (I got dropped by the Marines because I couldn't handle the questions correctly).

The investigator came by, talked to me for an hour or so, answering questions and stuff. I think I did pretty good. She also talked to the few remaining friends I have left that haven't gone to college or whatever. She also talked to my family, my school, my neighbors, my landlord, and my boss and coworkers, which is where this whole story is going.

So, one of my coworkers has the same first name as me. And he apparently hadn't been told that the investigator was going to show up. From what I'm told, the investigator walked in, went to my boss, and said something along the lines of "Hello, I'm here to conduct an investigation about one of your employees." I told my boss, so she knew what was coming and stuff. So they sat down and started discussing me. However, my coworker didn't know this, and thought the investigator was asking about him. He told me he was scared ****less, almost had a heart attack, and thought about running. Not that he did anything, but some people are just like that. He's asked to sit down with the investigator, and he doesn't know what to do, or anything. So, naturally, the first thing out of his mouth is "What did I do?"

I was laughing so had when he told me this story.

Don't buy into the Hype.

With the most recent wave of Sequel Mania, starting with the release of Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Assassin�s Creed 2, it�s important to talk about the concept of the �Hype�. The idea of �Hype� being applied to a product, before and after it�s being sold, isn�t a new concept and it can be done to pretty much anything. What I would like to talk about can apply to everything else in the world, but we�re going to focus more on video games, because right now, that�s what is relevant.

Rule #1 when dealing with a hyped product: Don�t buy into it.

I�m not saying that you shouldn�t purchase the product, in this case a game; rather, don�t get caught up in all of the hype surrounding it. We all know that hype is generated by word of mouth and at times a result of damn good marketing. But as we all find out, and usually the hard way, things don�t always turn out as good as they sounded. Hype, like many things in the entertainment industry, is subjective. It means different things to different people.

We can break the concept of hype into two categories: Pre-Release Hype and Post-Release Hype.

Pre-Release Hype, in the video game industry, this is the predominant form of hype that we experience. It is the company building up the game months, sometimes years, in advanced in order to gather a fan base and future customers. But you�ve probably been gaming for awhile and you already know this. Good for you, but I beg to question, do you become part of the marketing machine and lend to the hype before you�ve ever played the game?

Buying into the �hype� is pretty damn similar as buying into religion. You�ve got all of this media and text about the subject, but it�s nothing concrete and you�ve got to base it all on faith. Sorry Jesus, I�ll still play some Left 4 Dead 2 with you if you want. Gotta train for that upcoming apocalypse of yours. Game trailers, screen shots, demos, they are just samples of the game, barely anything to build a judgment on, at this point it�s all speculative. We�ve come to realize that the game demos are not accurate representations of the game and can be completely misleading.

Sometimes the hype is worth it. That one moment when you realize that the game does hold up to the amount of awesome things people were saying about it, is a great feeling. Most of the time it doesn�t happen, but it does occur from time to time. It sucks doesn�t it? How there are so many things can be both good and bad in certain situations. But the times we are disappointed stick around a lot longer than the moments where all the pieces fall into place.

So why not buy into the Pre-Release Hype? Ok, you got me, I can be a pessimistic/cynical person from time to time and it is exactly how it sounds. By not buying into the hype, you�re not getting your hopes up so high that they become unrealistic because the makers of the game probably won�t be living up to your wildest dreams. Personally, I find being pleasantly surprised is a hell of a lot better than being disappointed and lamenting about how it�s just not as good as it was cracked up to be and state, �This game is not worth the hype it had�. Well no ****. Without actually playing the game, how can you build it up so much? The more reliable form of hype, though just as dangerous is Post-Release Hype.

Post-Release Hype can happen any time after the product has been released. Sometimes it takes a few months after it has been released or it can take years. There are those gems that you do find occasionally years from the release, but at the time it came out, it either had an under the radar release with little marketing or there were a lot of other big name games that came out that the gem got swept under the rug.

There are many ways to generate Post-Release Hype and �Reviews� are the most efficient. Did the reviewer find the game good or bad, worthwhile or not worthwhile? Again, it comes down to opinions and what the individual likes. If you find a person reviewing a racing game when he or she is in fact in love with RPG�s, you�ll get a drastically different review than from someone who has a passion for racing games. That�s the problem with a lot of reviews and the idea of hype; you�ve got to see where it�s coming from, who�s behind it and what their qualifications are. I�m not talking about if the person is more qualified because they�re a game designer, but with content, a qualified person is someone who knows the genre, knows the niche and has been around the block a few times developing a critical eye.

How can you fight hype when it sometimes becomes a large monstrous blob that threatens to swallow the state of California? Is there no escape? This is usually how I approach most games and/or movies, hyped or not hyped. I will watch a trailer or two and leave it at that, unless there is a specific gameplay video that catches my eye. I don�t wait on hand and foot for the publishers to release every little clip, it�s a waste of time. If there�s a demo, I will try it. Although they can be misleading they can still give you a taste of the game. I still say that Bioshock was one of the best demo�s I�ve played that worked into the hype, but the gamble of that hype paid off. But I usually leave it at that. At this point I know if I�m going to buy it, rent it, or wait for a bit and read some reviews. I take most reviews with a grain of salt because the only person who can ultimately judge if it�s good for you or not is you. It�s easier to deal with hype if you have plenty of friends that have an eye for quality and know your tastes. I bet you have those friends that know what you like, suggest you things, and you check them out and you end up liking them. That�s hype that is less likely to let you down.

The best way to deal with an overly-hyped product is patience. You don�t have to be there for the midnight release. Take your time and don�t rush into buying the game. Wait it out. There are plenty of people out there who will suffer the disappointment for *you, or on the flip side, realize* how awesome the game is. Just from writing this and other observations we can determine that hype is a gamble. The question is: Are you willing to take that gamble?

The bottom line is: What may be hype for you may not be hype for your best friend.

In the end, don�t buy into the hype, because you will be one of the many complaining about it not living up to the high expectations you and those like you have applied to it. I don�t feel sorry for you; you bought into the �propaganda� machine for that game and built it up higher than it should have gone anyways. Acknowledge it, wait and watch, unless you want to make the gamble.

There are so many ****ing awesome people here it would be hard to pick but I would have to go with Mantis3. I have a sneaking suspicion that we could switch lived and nothing would really change. I would also get him to take me to a KU basketball game and in return he could witness the greatest offensive show on earth at Autzen Stadium.

okay so today i got my windows seven upgrade in the mail for my new laptop and i did not do anything with this laptop till i got my windows upgrade, so i install it and everything and it says that it is recomemded that you back your files up, i did not save a thing or do any work on this lap top at all, now i install windows seven and it is great and all, but i do not have works anymore now!!! i have an essay due in 8 hours and i am ****ed how can i get works?

Alright so I get into an argument with two of my roommates about the age old saying if its yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down. Don't get me wrong I'm not some ultra hippie who goes out of his way to save the earths precious resources, but I do some basic things to save electricity and water. Most of the time I don't flush my pee and my roommates got pissed off(no pun intended) and told me that it was 1 unsanitary and 2 not courteous. I gave them plenty of chances to comprise, such as giving up something they do that I find rude or annoying but like the stubborn bastards they are they just continued to get mad.

Here is my question for you, the wise members of the gd. Am I really that off base? Should I really continue to waste a large amount of water just to save them from a slightly unsettling smell? What are your thoughts in general about flushing and do you have any advice that would help me resolve the argument?
