View Full Version : L4D2 slightly slower?

Okay, this may seem like a dumb thread, but I've noticed a slight difference, if not a huge one (for me at least) for L4D2. When I played it for the first time, first thing I did was change my sensitivity right away to what I normally used in L4D. After playing it multiple times I've started to notice a difference between the two. I personally find L4D to be a lot more fast paced than this one.
Everything feels heavier and slow for some reason whenever I play it. Maybe I'm not use to the game yet and I'm too attached to the original. I'll admit that, but I think I've played the game enough to be familiar with it because it's practically the same engine and game. Movement doesn't feel as smooth for me. That, or the damn new weapon animations are driving me nuts. Particularly with shotguns where reloading is flat out weird, so run and gunning doesn't work out sometimes. I don't know how else to describe this issue so hopefully someone on here feels the same way about it. Other than that, game's fun and looks promising.

Didn't notice. It might just be that you haven't perfected it like the first what with the year of game play. Zombie killing is awesome what ever the speed anywho.

Yeah, I'll probably won't even notice once the game rolls out next week. Still, standby on the shotgun though! Damn you Valve, why. Give back the original reloading. It was fine.

When the last L4D patch came out, I swear they changed the way the halos and some of the film grain were presented, to such an extent that I couldn't bear to play for a few days. Now, though, it all seems normal.

2 of the most important mechanics that I will be looking in to is the booming mechanics and the tank melee mechanics. these days its almost impossibe to boom on half decent teams cus of the way they spread out and the second delay boomers get. A lot of good tanks emerged from the multi hit tank patch and im wondering if the tanks will move fast enough to catch ppl in green and have further reaching hits.

Ya the mechancis for weapons have changed it is much tougher to speed run with this shotgun. Also the zombies seem either fast or able to zig zag quicker

Does the weapon being closer have anything to do with it?

The shotgun reloading is definitely annoying. No matter if your gun is full or empty, it uses the empty animation from l4d1. Even with sensitivity at it's highest, l4d2's aiming is noticeably slower. As shotgun master has stated, I'm also wondering about tank mechanics. His arm is as long as most people's bodies, but he only reaches about two feet in length, and directly in front of his face, when he's clearly throwing a wide hook.

i feel like hunters fly through the air slower.

I did notice the hunters seemed a bit awkward in the demo. It seems like they are a little slower. I didn't think the pace of the game was noticeably slower, and aiming seemed natural to me. There do seem to be more open areas in the L4D2 maps. That combined with a brighter atmosphere may make it seem like things are moving slower, since you're not frantically moving through narrow corridors and rooms piled with random crap everywhere.

I noticed that after I played the demo I went to play a match and the controls for 1 on maxed out sens felt a bit jerky. Im feeling a bit opposite of you here, I think they feel smoother maxed out in 2 than they do on 1. But thats just how I thought it felt. =)

running does feel a bit slower, and the shotguns have been nerfed, both in range and (seemingly) in damage. in l4d1 a single blast from a pump could kill a hunter, nearly kill a smoker, and could shoot through 2-3 commons, killing them.
In l4d2, the reloading is more time consuming for both stopping and starting the reload animation, and a shotgun shot will do maybye 50% to a smoker, and like 70% to a hunter. Im gonna test it out for sure, the zombies feel alot stronger too, since they will still come at you even after you blow their pelvis/arms to shreds, haha

If you wait until Tuesday that'll all be very very easy to check. Little sense trying now.

IDK why they would change the sensitivity.
Oh and L4D2 will be even faster paced than L4D1, because attacks will be stronger so moving fast enough to severely limit the amount of enemy attacks will be huge.
On expert my roommate and I speedrun the demo easily. I can't think of anything L4D2 adds that slows gameplay.

i played a few levels in l4d2. i will kill them all tomorrow.
but i noticed that the movement was a little thicker, not sure how to explain it. after i jacked up the controls it was better. l4d is still alot faster.
but also l4d2 takes in concideration water, think folage, and things like that and it effects your movement. you slow down with your enviornment.

I sometimes get stuck on items, and decor for the map, that I would usually hurtle in L4D1, I feel like moving slower is more intelligent in this game, but that might just be me not knowing the maps entirely, I feel some places will be fast paced, and some places will be slowpaced.

The gameplay is still the same but it does have a sort of sluggish feel to it. Movement and everything is the same but it feels heavy... I can't explain it very well, but it doesn't feel bad. Just a little different. I guess we'll see when playing against good infected teams.

I'm probably going to have to adjust between weapons now. Sucks since pump shotguns have been my primary weapon. You run out of ammo quickly now. Ah, I guess I'll figure some way out to keep my ammo stocked now that we have so much weapons to use now. Lets just hope there's no hack n' slash pubs out there, not that would work at all anyway lol.
